Unique Chinese dance presented in Chile

"Week of Art: China Today" also included a performance in Talca, in the south of Chile, a city that was severely affected by February's major earthquake and the tsunamis. The Chinese artists hoped that their performance would raise the spirit of quake victims.

The Chinese artists performed Tibetan dances and Uyghur love songs. Their expression was vigorous and their passion ardent: The gala was all about the splendor and richness of Chinese folklore.

One dancer said that all the artists have tried their best to overcome the lag, the sudden weather change, and other negative factors in order to make the tour a success.
A massive earthquake took place on February 27th in Chile, causing more than 500 deaths. Thousands went missing and the country suffered significant economic losses.

The Mayor of Talca noted that the Chinese artists' scheduled visit to the quake-affected region is evidence that the Chinese people are deeply concerned about the victims of the natural disaster.

Chinese singers have also learned to sing a Chilean folk song, which greatly resonated with members of the audience.

The "Week of Art: China Today" was initiated by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles in 2004. During the past six years, the event has toured a dozen countries including Canada, Greece, Australia, Austria, Japan, and Egypt.

After the event wraps up in Chile, it will tour to Argentina for more cultural exchanges.
