How to Choose Alcohol to Avoid a Hangover
If you choose alcohol properly you can avoid a hangover. The type of alcohol you drink will affect whether or not you get a hangover, and how bad it will be. Below is a breakdown of which alcohols to avoid, and which to choose to prevent hangovers.
Instructions:
1. Congeners are chemicals that are formed during the fermentation of alcohol. To avoid a hangover, you want to choose the alcohol with the least amount of congeners.
2. Vodka is the best option, with only a few congeners in it.
3. Gin is the second best option, with a few more congeners in it than vodka.
4. Whiskey has more than 3 times as many congeners as gin.
5. Scotch, Rum and Brandy have almost 7 times as many congeners as gin.
6. Bourbon has almost 9 times as many congeners as gin, making it the worst option.
7. As a general rule, stick to the lighter alcohols. Even white wine has far less congeners than red wine.
8. Be sure to drink lots of water before and after drinking alcohol, and never drink on an empty stomach.
